South West Robotics Challenge 2009 - Champions! |

On the 26th November Team F.A.I.L. from The Commonweal School were awarded the Champions Award for the South West and will go through to the UK and Ireland National final at Loughborough University on 23rd January 2010.
The challenge was called ‘Smart Move’ and was based around transportation. The eight students designed, built and programmed a robot, carried out research into transportation problems in their community; in their case problems surrounding buses and presented their findings to a group of judges.
They were awarded the champions prize for the best overall performance out the 23 teams taking part from around the South West, for their research project presentations, robot performance over three rounds, robot design and their teamwork. |

Climate Cops! |

Students from Commonweal School have beaten hundreds of schools nationwide to turn their green campagin in to a reality.
The energy company Npower ran a competition called Climate Cops SOS designed to motivate the UK's greenest teens to turn their passion for the environment in to a reality.
Ten students from Commonweal impressed judges with their entry video designed to rally the people of Swindon in to buying local food and reducing their food miles.

Now they're through to the final they'll go to London at the end of the month to take part in a special work shop hosted by former journalist, spin doctor and top campaign strategist Alastair Campbell. Using their mentors wisdom they'll then go on to have a series of workshops which will turn their campaign in to a reality. |

U13 Girls Win Table Tennis Tournament |

On Tuesday 13th October, four Under 13 girls went to Swindon Academy to play in the 'Swindon Schools U13 Table Tennis Tournament'.
Each girl had to play 3 games. Out of the 12 games played we won 9 which won the tournament.
The girls involved were Megan Cleeves, Maisey Wichall, Laura Johnson & Mollie Pinkney. |

Commonweal Wins Worldwide Geography Quiz |

The Commonweal School took part in the annual Cirencester College Worldwide Geography Quiz, which is held between Schools in Swindon and Gloucestershire. In the final the teams of four students battled through 7 rounds of Geography based questions to find the winner of the Shield presented by Cirencester College. In the end Swindon Academy came 2nd with 148 points but Commonweal won with 182 points. Congratulations must go to the team members, Amber Pomagalski, Emily Parmeter, Jozef Pres and Ryan Saywer. |

Secondary Geography Quality Mark for Commonweal! |

Commonweal Achieves the Geographical Association Secondary Geography Quality Mark. At the beginning of a new term and at a time of continuing concern - from Ofsted and others - at the health of geography in school, the Geographical Association is delighted to announce that Commonweal, along with eight further schools have been awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM). The SGQM, sponsored by the Action Plan for Geography and the DCSF, is now in its second year and is rapidly becoming recognised as the national standard for the teaching of geography in schools. A total of 56 schools have now achieved the award.
